university of northampton This partnership with University of Northampton is a unique partnership between an institute in Kathmandu, Nepal and a British university at joint delivery level.

Being partners, both institutes are responsible for programme delivery. All NAMI teachers are trained by UN and they receive regular training. Student orientation is also conducted by UN at NAMI.

The University of Northampton has an extensive history in Northampton dating back to the 13th century whilst The University of Northampton has evolved from the beginning of the 20th century.

  • 1924 Northampton Technical College was established. The St. George’s Avenue building was opened by the Duke and Duchess of York in 1932. The School of Art opened in 1937.
  • 1972 Margaret Thatcher opened the College of Education at Park Campus in 1972.
  • 1975 Nene College was formed from the amalgamation of the College of Education, College of Technology and College of Art.
  • 1992 Nene College transferred its further education provision to further education colleges in Northamptonshire and focused on higher education.
  • 1993 Nene College incorporated St. Andrew’s School of Occupational Therapy and was granted undergraduate degree awarding powers.
  • 1994 The Leathersellers College in London was integrated into Nene College.
  • 1997 Sir Gordon Roberts College of Nursing and Midwifery was also incorporated into Nene College.
  • 1999 Nene College became University College Northampton.
  • 2005 The University of Northampton was established, having been awarded full university status and research degree awarding powers.

 

The University of Northampton is made up of six academic schools, each specializing in a particular area of study.

The School of Science and Technology is one of the world’s leading specialist institutions for the study of leather technology, resource efficiency, lift engineering and non destructive testing. The School formed the Northants Engineering Training Partnership over 20 years ago, a group of established companies that provide industry placements to hand selected Engineering students each year.
Students can study in the subject areas of Design, Fashion and Textiles, Fine Art, Performance,, Media, English and Culture.
The School of Education has a national reputation for excellence in both teaching and research in professional education and training. The School has over 40 years experience in teacher training and continues to build on its success having been awarded by Ofsted and the Training and Development Agency for Schools for its outstanding results.
The School of Health delivers education and training to develop students into confident and capable health professionals. Subjects include: Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Paramedic Science, Podiatry, Social Work, Sport Exercise and Life Sciences.
Northampton Business School (NBS) is renowned for high quality teaching and research. Research and consultancy in six subject groups: Accounting & Finance, Information Sciences, Business & Economics, Leadership & Human Resources, Marketing & Leisure Management.
The School of Social Sciences provides a wide range of traditional and modern disciplines. Many courses offer practical experience, for instance Law students can put their skills into practice in the University’s purpose-built Moot Room, providing a realistic courtroom setting. Each year, a number of Politics and Sociology students undertake unique placements in the House of Commons.
